Friday, August 6 I am distressed and extremely downcast; I walk around sad all day long.—Ps. 38:6.

Friday, August 6

I am distressed and extremely downcast; I walk around sad all day long.—Ps. 38:6.

At times, King David was overwhelmed by stress. Think of the challenges he faced. He was weighed down with guilt for the many mistakes he had made. (Ps. 40:12) His beloved son Absalom rebelled against him, leading to Absalom’s death. (2 Sam. 15:13, 14; 18:33) And one of David’s closest friends betrayed him. (2 Sam. 16:23–17:2; Ps. 55:12-14) Many of the psalms David wrote convey his feelings of discouragement as well as his unshakable trust in Jehovah. (Ps. 38:5-10; 94:17-19) Later a psalmist began to envy the lifestyle of wicked people. He may have been a descendant of the Levite Asaph, and he served at “the grand sanctuary of God.” This psalmist suffered emotional stress, causing him to become unhappy and discontented. He even started to doubt the blessings that come from serving God.—Ps. 73:2-5, 7, 12-14, 16, 17, 21. w19.06 17 ¶12-13

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed is normal in the life we are living today but our strength comes from reliance on Jehovah .

we have to face and deal with our weaknesses , as with the psalmist he developed an envy of those opposed to a Jehovah and even doubted the blessings he received

But he spoke freely to him about the reasons why he  was so stressed. And they continued to go to Jehovah’s place of worship.

so having the feelings sometimes is natural but we must deal with them quickly to stay close to a Jehovah .

- David never doubted Jehovah’s loyal love, he knew that Jehovah was always supporting & comforting him.

- Though the psalmist from the descendant of Asaph temporarily lost focus but he got help from writing psalms.

When overwhelmed by stress, we do well to engage ourselves more on spiritual activities. Like the psalmist, Our ministry - telephone witnessing & letter writing will give us more joy as we are seeking for ways to help others to come to know Our Father. Avoid isolating oneself by associating with fellow Christians will help us to regain our strength through their encouragements.

Prayer helped David to see the good Jehovah was doing to/for him, it can also help us to appreciate all the things Jehovah has done for us & That will ease our emotional pain.

The critical times we live in are very hard to deal with. The stresses and pressures just to survive from day to day seem to want to destroy us. Compared to the stress that some are going, what David went through may seem like a cake walk. King David had everything yet he like anyone else didn't always have peace of mind. Keep seeking the blessing from Jehovah. It's one thing that gives us relief and cause us no pain.

The one showing favor to the lowly is lending to Jehovah

Some irrelevant info. Beware :offtopic:

Cake walk.

The fluid and graceful steps of the dance may have given rise to the colloquialism that something accomplished with ease is a "cakewalk".

My, that looks hard for someone like me, born with two left feet.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

I love the next paragraph after this in that Watchtower

Quote

Jehovah compassionately responded to each one of them. Hannah gained peace of mind. (1 Sam. 1:18) David wrote: “Many are the hardships of the righteous one, but Jehovah rescues him from them all.” (Ps. 34:19) And the psalmist later felt that Jehovah had “taken hold of [his] right hand,” guiding him with loving advice. He sang: “As for me, drawing near to God is good for me. I have made the Sovereign Lord Jehovah my refuge.” (Ps. 73:23, 24, 28) What do we learn from these examples? At times, we will be burdened with problems that cause us stress. But we can cope if we meditate on how Jehovah has helped others, rely on him in prayer, and obey him by doing what he asks us to do.—Ps. 143:1, 4-8.

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

I love that Jerry, sometimes we don't just have one problem but at times we can be 'burdened ' with problems... and yet we know that Jehovah will rescue us

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.
